The Power of Three
This week the #TheThreeHijabis struck again with their anti-racism campaign launched the day after the Italy v England game. Please sign the petition, if you haven't yet. When I signed it, there were around 200 signatures. At the time of writing, it's on 1.1 MILLION.
The campaign led to some of the most grown up conversations we’ve had about racism, it seemed to me, even on mainstream daytime TV.
If this petition by #TheThreeHijabis succeeds it’ll be a significant culture shift away from condoning and colluding with racism. What @AmnaAbdul1983 @shaistaAziz @hudzyboo have done deserves all our support and thanks ✊🏻🙏🏻https://t.co/jPcKXZ7pTX

By Wednesday, the Prime Minister had said:
Boris Johnson says people guilty of racist abuse of footballers online will be banned from matches https://t.co/Q4DAvvtmKG

The next step of the campaign is to tackle the FA.
By the way, it's the Women's Euros in England next year. I'm planning to go. Join me!
And onto the Olympics. I loved this Vogue front cover featuring the fastest woman in British history, Dina Asher-Smith.
And, sadly, Birthrights, the charity dedicated to improving the experience of pregnancy and childbirth, came under fire following an article in the Sunday Times. You can read their statement here. The attacks on social media led to:
Regretfully, we will be limiting (or switching off where possible) commenting on our social media accounts for the next few days due to the volume of abuse - including threats of violence - that our small team is having to field across all our communications platforms.

Reports published this week 🖇️
Inclusion London worked with seven regional disabled people's organisations to understand the current challenges and needs of the sector. At a time when the need for support is increasing, these organisations are struggling for funds and resources. The report can be downloaded here.
Runnymede Trust published their latest civil society report to the United Nations Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It's a report they do every four years. I imagine they feel like they're shouting into the void. Here are some key stats from the report
And the Hamilton Commission report on racism in Formula One was published.
Learning points 🎓
People have been wondering how to manage hybrid meetings. I've been grappling with a hybrid life. Now I'm not sitting on my bum all day I seem not to be able to move as quickly between things any more.
Day of the Week 📆

And here's a great post about use of gender-inclusive language from Nikki Bell.
What am I reading? 📚
I read Chris Packham and Megan McCubbin's book, "Back to Nature". I learned that the English oak tree supports more species of plant and creature than any other native tree. So I bought one. See below.
What am I listening to?👂
I've been listening to Julia Jacklin recently. She's 30 and from Melbourne and this is the kind of video I'd make if I was a musician.
Joy-giving things 😍
I bought an oak tree. Clare thought I should call him Phil. But that would be silly.
It's about 50cm now and can live in its pot for up to five years. Hopefully I can find a good place to plant it one day and it will outlive me and provide a habitat for all sorts of creatures.
Have a great weekend. Give a tree some love 🌳
