Well what a year it’s been. This is my last newsletter of 2022. All being well, I’ll be back early in January. Have a good and restful break, whatever you're doing.

Every year, following Lesley Pinder's recommendation, I fail to complete my Year Compass. This year I'm going to do it. And now I've told you about it, I'm going to have to!

A few more reflections on the continuing fallout from the Where are you really from? incident at Buckingham Palace.

Isn't it wrong/racist that Sistah Space only cater for Black women? Twitter explainer thread from Ava Vidal.

What does where are you really from really mean? Great article from Zoe Amar.

Ngozi Fulani’s real name is exactly what she says it is.

Day of the Week 📆

UN Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on 10 Dec. This year's theme was Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All. Yes please.

It was also the Geminid meteor shower this week.

What am I reading? 📚

Every end of the year I read this article by John Diamond.

What am I watching? 👀

The paths taken and not taken

Thirty-five years ago this week, I walked through the doors of the old Amex House offices in Edward Street, Brighton, for the first time. Armed with my degree in Spanish and French, I didn't have much idea of what I wanted to do with my language skills. I

Back to school

I've just been into the garden to pick some apples. It's been raining heavily on and off for the past 24 hours, the moss-filled grass is spongey and wet, the leaves on the trees are starting to turn, and the petals on my cosmos are starting
